About the Fishing Excursion in the Rodriguan Lagoon

This fishing excursion is ideal for enthusiasts and even novices wanting to try their luck in the Rodriguan lagoon. It allows you to catch a sight of Rodrigues’ picturesque landscape from the sea, and with some luck, a great catch too, since the Rodriguan sea is home to a wide variety of fish. This fishing trip is likely to be one of the unforgettable experiences of your holiday on the island.

Your fishing expedition will start with a 45 minutes boat trip from Port Mathurin to a suitable fishing spot in the northern lagoon where you will have opportunities for casting and troll fishing.

If you wish to explore the incredible underwater world of Rodrigues, you can also enjoy a snorkeling session in the Rivière Banane Reserve’s Aquarium to discover a plethora of colourful fish and coral. Through snorkelling, you will get to explore the marvellous well-preserved marine environment of Rodrigues that includes around 280 species of coral, an impressive array of marine life such as rays, jack fish, turtles and other exotic aquatic creatures.

Snorkeling, fishing as well as safety equipment, including lifejackets and lifebuoys, will be provided to you by the professional skipper onboard.

Additional Info on the Rivière Banane Marine Reserve

The Rivière Banane Marine Reserve is located in front of the village of Rivière Banane on the North-East coast of Rodrigues. The Rivière Banane site was specifically selected to include the special “Aquarium” area which contains good numbers of commercial and other fish species because the site was seen by fishers and scientists as a good potential source of fish larvae that could replenish surrounding areas if left un-fished.
